Miniskirt Pirates (ミニスカパイレーツ, Minisuka Pairētsu), also known as Miniskirt Space Pirates (ミニスカ宇宙海賊, Minisuka Uchū Kaizoku), is a series of light novels written by Yūichi Sasamoto and published by Asahi Shimbun Shuppan since October 2008. It was adapted into the anime series, Mouretsu Pirates which aired in early 2012, a web manga adaption which ran from June to December 2012, and a serialised manga adaption of the movie which ran from February onwards 2014.


The series is set in the far future and follows the story of Marika Kato, a high school student on the planet Sea of the Morning Star who learns that her recently deceased father was a space pirate operating under a Letter of Marque and as his direct descendant, she is the only one who can take his place as captain of the pirate ship Bentenmaru which she decides to do.

The light novel series is written by Yūichi Sasamoto and published by Asahi Shimbun Shuppan. The first volume was released in October 2008. At present, twelve volumes have been released, in both paper and e-book forms.

Following the release of Volume 12 in August 2014 and the end of the 'first phase', the series went on a break. On October 17th 2015, Yūichi Sasamoto confirmed that two new stories were in the works.[1]

A web manga adaption by Hiro Toge began in Nico Nico Asahi Comic Fantasy on Nico Nico Seiga on 2nd June 2012 and concluded on 2nd December. A tankoubon volume was released on 7th December 2012.

A second manga adaption for the movie was announced for Monthly Comic Alive on 27th November 2013, beginning in February 2014. A tankoubon volume was released on 22nd March 2014.
