An assault ship (強襲艦, Kyōshū-kan) is a class of warship, meant for boarding other vessels.

An assault ship is a type of vessel which is designed for performing boarding operations against enemy vessels. Given the circumstances of these boarding operations, this is often done through ramming the target vessel, as such assault ships need to be fast, able to withstand impacts from ramming other ships and capable of deploying personnel quickly into the enemy ship, usually through their bow. They may also have a degree of stealth technology to support their operations [1][2] and hull cutting blades on their bows [3].
Ships of this class are sometimes docked onto other warships prior to deployment [1].
